Proposal calls for naming whale park after Overstreet

(KINY) - The Assembly Lands Committee will take up a proposal at its meeting Monday evening to name the park under the bridge after former Mayor Bill Overstreet.

The focal point of the park is the whale sculpture which Overstreet pushed for prior to his death after seeing the scuplture of a blue whale in Tokyo when he headed up the Alaska State Office in Japan.

The committee meeting is scheduled to convene at 5 p.m. in Assembly Chambers at City Hall.
