Price of pot drops

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) The price of marijuana on the black market is still more than the legal kind.

The Anchorage Daily News reports that more growers have entered the market prompting a reduce in price.  If it continues some cultivators might have to shut their doors unable to cover expenses.

April 20th is the unofficial marijuana holiday in the state with many stores offering rebates and sales.

The price of legal weed one year ago today was between $60 and $88 for one eighth of an ounce in Alaska.  In a survey of 32 retail outlets in Juneau, Anchorage, and Fairbanks, the listed price Thursday was between $30 and $80.

Weed Maps, a website that serves as a clearinghouse for retail prices across the state and country provides the average cost of marijuana each day.

Juneau buyers pay an 8 percent excise tax.
