President declares national emergency

Washington, DC (KINY) - President Donald Trump announced $50 billion in funding to fight the coronavirus outbreak.

He spoke to the American people from the Rose Garden as Washington struggles with providing Americans with relief and officials race to slow the spread of outbreak.

Trump says the emergency will open up nearly $50 billion for state and local governments to respond to the outbreak.

Negotiations continue between the White House and Congress on an aid package, but there was no announcement of a breakthrough, as House Democrats prepare to vote on their own measure Friday.

"Through our national will, we will overcome the threat of the virus," in announcing the emergency.

Every hospital was asked to activate their emergency operation plans.  The funds can be used to bring additional physicians on board.

Trump said they will remove every obstacle to assist hospital care for patients.

"No resource will be spared, none whatsoever," he added.

They also announced a deal with the private sector to expand the availability of testing for the coronavirus.

"We don't want everyone running out and taking it, its only for those with certain symptoms."
