Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Alaska Electric Light and Power crews expect repairs to take several hours before power can be restored.

Spokesperson Debbie Driscoll said a tree knocked down and broke a power pole near Tee Harbor.

"Crews were able to isolate that area and restore power to customers from Lena Point up until Tee Harbor.  Customers from Tee Harbor to further out the road will be out of power until the damage is repaired."

She said the repairs could last the entire day.

"We know people are isolated in their homes and we are working as quickly and safely as we can.  We know the timing is terrible but there is nothing we can do about that," she added.

Crews are working as quickly as possible to get power back on.  Driscoll said power should be back on by 5 pm at the latest.

She noted normally a tree doesn't do this much damage.  They can take down a power line but don't bust the pole.

"The pole is no longer viable in this case, we have to replace the pole, put it in the ground and then rewire," she added.

She said crews will get power back on as soon as possible.
