Port Protection TV series feared killed in fire in Southeast community

    Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - It's feared a cast member of the National Geographic reality television show "Life Below Zero: Port Protection, died in a residential fire last Wednesday in the Prince of Wales Island community located in Southeast Alaska.

    The 75-year-old Gary Muehlberger, who owned the residence, has not been seen since prior to the fire.

    A posting to the Life Below Zero Facebook Page stated that they were extremely saddened to learn of his passing.  

    The fire was reported late that morning and was said to be fully engulfed.  Alaska State Troopers and a deputy fire marshal found human remains during their inspection of the debris.  The remains were sent to the State Medical Examiner in Anchorage for positive identification.

    A Trooper dispatch reports that the deputy fire marshal has ruled the fire as accidental.

    The season finale aired the day before the fire.
