Police rescue troubled woman

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) A female was threatening to jump off the Juneau-Douglas bridge overnight.

Juneau Police said an officer noticed a concerned citizen was walking to the edge of the bridge and a young woman holding on from the outside of the railing.

Police said the woman was in crisis and the officer was able to grab her before she jumped off the bridge.

Capital City Fire Rescue and the US Coast Guard assisted in the rescue.

The woman was transported to Bartlett Regional Hospital for treatment.

Traffic was halted on the bridge during the incident.

Police remind residents that the holiday season may bring joy to many, it is a difficult time for others.  Juneau Police urge residents to be gracious to others and look for opportunities to carry another's burden.

Pain shared is pain divided.  Joy shared is joy multiplied, the department stated in a release.
