Police officer assaulted

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) The officer was assaulted as he investigated a trespass complaint downtown.

Juneau Police said Leroy Jacobs, 41, and Marilyn Willard, 48, were asked to leave the business in the 200 block of South Franklin Street.  The business complained that the couple had been consistently camping on the property and they wanted them removed.

Police report they found Jacobs on Ferry Way and tried to issue him a trespass warning.  Jacobs then became hostile, and resisted arrest, police added.

Willard is charged with striking an officer in the head as they tried to handcuff Jacobs.

Jacobs was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.  Willard has been charged with assault on a police officer and violation of her conditions of release on an unrelated court case.

The officer who had been assaulted required a medical evaluation at the hospital but was released later that day with only minor injuries.
