Juneau, AK (KINY) - Pets that were in storage for cremation were drug into the streets late Tuesday night.
According to a press release from Juneau Police, an Animal Control officer responded to a residence on Cohen Drive. Several deceased dogs that were in heavy plastic bags were strewn about the roadway. The next morning a JPD Community Service Officer, the Fish and Game Coordinator and two Animal Control Officers responded to the area and after investigation believe that a bear or multiple bears had torn out the dogs that were being stored improperly in a soft sided structure.
The owner of the property and the business that provides cremation services, Michael Dziuba was cited by JPD for Bear Attraction Nuisance. Animal Control Officers also issued multiple citations for Improper Disposal of Dead Animals.
Dziuba had been cooperative with multiple agencies during the incident. Fish and Game will be monitoring the area for further bear activity.
