Over 650 to receive degrees and awards from UAS this weekend

    Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Commencement weekend is coming up for the University of Alaska Southeast.

    Chancellor Rick Caulfield will be on the road in Sitka for a 7 p.m. commencement there Friday and at 2:30 Saturday afternoon in Ketchikan.  Commencement on the Auke Lake campus in Juneau is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday.

    Caulfield said on Action Line that between the three campuses and online students that will issue 651 awards and degrees.  About one-third of those receiving awards and degrees are from the Sitka and Ketchikan campuses.

    The chancellor says about a third of their graduates will be earning degrees in career and technical education.  Twenty-eight percent will earn degrees in teacher education or becoming principals or superintendents.  He figures fifteen percent will be in business and accounting and management.

    Caulfield said its all about providing a workforce for Southeast Alaska.
