On site marijuana consumption approved

Anchorage, Alaska (KINY) The Alaska Marijuana Control Board paved the way for the state to be the first to allow marijuana to be smoked in retail stores.

The board voted 3-2 to pass a proposal that would allow on-site consumption. The vote came a day after a public hearing in Anchorage that was packed with supporters representing the cannabis industry.

The proposal now goes onto the Alaska Department of Law for review.  The proposal must also be signed by Lt. Governor Kevin Meyer before it takes effect.
