Officers involved in shooting in Salcha identified

    Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Two troopers have been identified in the police-involved shooting in Salcha near Fairbanks last week.

    1-year veteran Trooper Cody Royer and 5-year veteran Lane Bonham of Fairbanks PD were identified Monday.

    The shooting occurred on the 8th of October where authorities were sent to the community of Salcha, about 40 miles south of Fairbanks, with a search warrant to locate and serve multiple warrants on 35-year-old resident Scott Hottinger. Troopers said he had warrants that stemmed from charges of kidnapping, assault, and domestic assault.

    When authorities arrived, Hottinger reportedly exited his residence with a firearm and was shouting.

    After authorities announced themselves as troopers, Hottinger fired at them. Troopers returned fire and fatally struck Hottinger.

    No law enforcement officers were injured.

    The Alaska Bureau of Investigation is investigating the incident.
