Sitka, Alaska (KINY) Officer Ryan Silva claimed retaliation for making complaints about department misconduct.
The complaint filed Friday added that Silva was demoted from detective to patrol after he complained about an informal policy to not cite or investigate locals deemed good people.
Silva also claimed the department bought automatic weapons and gave them to officers untrained in using the weapons. He claimed there was no department policy for their use.
The lawsuit said Silva was placed on administrative leave earlier this month.
The Sitka Police Department and Sitka Police Chief Jeff Ankerfelt were named as defendants in the litigation.
