No charges in armed standoff

    Fairbanks, Alaska (KINY) A standoff near a hospital ended peacefully with no arrests.

    Fairbanks Police said no charges will be filed against the armed, suicidal man.  He was parked in a vehicle with his girlfriend for hours outside Fairbanks Memorial Hospital.

    Police recovered a shotgun and a second firearm from the vehicle.  The female was not considered a hostage because she did not want to leave the vehice.

    Police said the man threatened suicide if anyone came near the vehicle but never threatened anyone else.

    The man was taken into protective custody and underwent a psychiatric evaluation.
