Next phase of Douglas water main replacement to begin May 5

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Phase two of the City and Borough of Juneau’s Douglas Highway Water Main Replacement Project is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, May 5.

CBJ contractor Glacier State Contractors anticipates the first section of work, located near and around the Lawson Creek Bridge area, to take place between May 5 and May 14. Details on traffic revisions will be forthcoming.

The nine-section phase of the project consists of replacing the existing ductile iron water main and associated services with a new, high-density, polyethylene water main along Douglas Highway from David Street to the Geneva Woods CBJ Water Pump Station building adjacent to Gastineau Elementary School.

The work will also include some sanitary sewer repair, and removal and replacement of roadway asphalt, sidewalk, curb and gutter, and other miscellaneous related work.

Glacier State Contractors will work Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The project will impact local traffic and on-street parking. Pedestrian access will be maintained along one side of the street.

Expect scheduled one-way traffic, delays, and detours during construction. Drivers, bikers, and pedestrians are encouraged to pass through the site with caution, watching for construction equipment and personnel.
