Petersburg, Alaska (KINY) - A new Raven's Roost Forest Service cabin is coming to Petersburg soon. According to a release from the Forest Service, construction is expected to begin in a few months.

Raven's Roost will be a handicap-accessible cabin and will be closer to town than the original, harder-to-reach cabin it is replacing.

It will be built by a local contractor, Rainforest Contracting, who will get the lumber from a local mill in Hoonah. The cabin will have furniture built and donated by high school students.

Raven's Roost is being funded by the Forest Service's Capital Improvement Program and totals $568,000.

There has been a lot of work recently on the trail leading up to the cabin and the Forest Service says use has increased since the trail was redone. They think this is good news for their new cabin, which will be at the new of the trail.
