Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Eston Jennings, Director of School Climate and Culture at Dillingham City Schools, has been selected as the new principal at Juneau Community Charter School.
Jennings has 15 years of experience as a teacher. She previously worked as an instructional coach, administrator in special education, a special education teacher and coordinator, and an elementary and middle school gifted teacher in Georgia.
Jennings replaces Caron Smith who is retiring this year.
The Juneau School District began a nationwide search to fill the position earlier this year. They interviewed candidates via online video on May 13 and 14.
Jennings said she is enthusiastic about the new position, “I am honored to join the staff and families at JCCS. I could not imagine a more unique and collaborative community to work within a beautiful city. The community voiced how much progress they have made with Caron Smith and I hope to carry on her hard work and legacy at JCCS,” she said.
Jennings said her interview was unique, “Although our meetings were over video conferencing, the students, families, faculty, and staff were able to impress upon me their care for one another, their pride in the school, and their creativity. It.was not an easy task on video. I cannot wait to begin our work together. Moo (my Boston), my family, and I are thankful and excited for this opportunity and are looking forward to trying out the local seafood.”
