Anchorage, Alaska (KINY) Now even sex offenders are getting scammed.
Alaska State Troopers said the phone scam involves a caller that claims to be a trooper in the sex offender/ child kidnapper registry office and
tells the sex offender they are out of compliance and threatens them with arrest if they don't pay a sum of money.
Troopers say they never demand money over the phone. They advice not to provide payment to anyone reaching you via phone or email that
claims to be the police.
They urge sex offenders to go online to the sex offender registry page for information on the status of their case.
