New Mural Proposal for Juneau seeks to Create more City Art

Juneau, AK (KINY) - Juneau could be getting a new mural if a proposal is passed by Parks and Recreation and later the Assembly.

Inspired by the Greetings Tour, an effort by artists Victor Ving and Lisa Beggs to create murals in all 50 states, the mural is hoping to create a sense of Alaskan pride. The hope is to inspire locals and tourists. The proposal is being pitched by the Greetings Tour Committee, which is made up on Travel Juneau Board members, Downtown Business Association representatives, a Juneau public library employee, and various community members.

The mural will also be a chance for a collaboration of local artists for designing and painting the piece.

The proposal is looking to create a 40 by 15 foot mural on the south facing wall of the Marine Parking Garage, which will cost roughly $12,000. The group is hoping to gather that money through fundraising.

The Juneau Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee will discuss the proposal at its Nov. 7th meeting, which will be held in City Hall Chambers at 6pm. There will also be an opportunity for public commentary on the proposition.
