New COO to head Alaska Airlines

Constance von Muehlen to take charge at Alaska Airlines

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Constance von Muehlen is to become the first woman to serve as the chief operating officer of Alaska Airlines.

A release from Alaska Air Group says von Muehlen will take charge as of April 3.

She'll join Alaska's executive committee and report to Ben Minicucci who becomes the company's chief executive officer on March 31.

She succeeds Gary Beck who is retiring after a 47-year career in aviation.

von Muehlen is a 30-year aviation veteran who the company says received her leadership training flying Black Hawk helicopters as a captain in the U. S. Army.

She most recently served as senior vice president of maintenance and engineering.  Before that, she was Horizon Air's chief operating officer.
