New cases in Juneau

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Six new individuals were identified with COVID-19 for Wednesday.

Four are residents and two are non-residents in the mining sector. Two of the resident cases are connected to a small local daycare. That cluster is now at 10 total people, nine of which are active

Statewide, 201 people were identified with the virus, five of which are non-residents.

At a Community COVID update on Tuesday, deputy city manager Mila Cosgrove said a variant of concern had been identified in Juneau. The test was performed in March and was discovered in April as the variant thought to be originally from Great Britain. Cosgrove said it is not known yet whether the cases in Juneau right now are linked to the variant.
