National Guard getting rid of armories

Bethel, Alaska (KINY) The Guard wants to hand over ownership to local communities of dozens of armories.

KYUK News said more than 60 armories will be divested over the next four years.  About half of them are located in western Alaska in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta.

Many of the buildings have been vacant for years.  Most were built during the Cold War era.  The buildings will be available to any local community if the federal government doesn't want them.  Unclaimed armories could be demolished.
