More wastewater capacity needed

Hoonah, Alaska (KINY) City Council here took steps forward in an expansion of the communities wastewater treatment plant.

City Administrator Dennis Gray said the expansion would cost an estimated $4.8 million.  It would also expand the capacity of the plant from the existing 175-million gallons to 450-million gallons per day.

Gray said they expect to have the design of the plant completed in the spring and then move onto the construction phase.  He said it will help meet the demand created by more cruise ships visiting Hoonah during the summer months.
