More snow and high winds in Juneau forecast

    Juneau, Alaska (KINY) -  The National Weather Service reports that about 7 to 10 inches of snow had fallen throughout Juneau as of 5 a.m. Saturday. 

    Upwards of 18 inches was forecast.  Petersburg reported 15.8 inches as of 5 a.m.

    The Winter Storm Warning beginning at 9 Friday morning was to be in effect until Noon Saturday.

    Two to four inches of snow is forecast through Saturday evening.

    Meanwhile, the Juneau Forecast Office has issued a high wind warning for the Juneau area form midnight Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday.

    Northeast winds 30 to 40 miles per hour with gusts to 60 are expected.

    The warning is also in effect for Skagway and the Klondike Highway.  The weather service warns that the heavy snowfall combined with blustery winds could further hamper travel with reduced visibility in blowing snow.
