More details released on fire

    Juneau, Alaska (KINY) Three stories in a building in the 200 block of North Franklin Street were extensively damaged in the blaze.

    Capital City Fire Rescue Assistant Fire Chief Ed Quinto said the first call came in at 8:30 pm, "There was a report of flames coming from a building.  Upon arrival we found a commercial-residential building with flames coming from the side of the building."

    20 firemen and volunteers battled the blaze.  I was ruled under control at about 9:30 pm.  There were no injuries reported.  The building includes six apartment units and houses Barnaby Brewing.

    Quinto said the monetary estimate of damage was not available but that three stories were extensively damaged.

    "The building quickly filled up with smoke and additional crews were sent in to locate the main body of the fire and it was extinguished."

    He said the fire started somewhere inside the building.

    The American Red Cross Juneau Office came to the aid of the residents.  There was no one inside when the fire started.

    The Fire Marshall continues to investigate.  Electric and other utilities were shut off and the building was deemed uninhabitable.
