Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Juneau Police have released additional details into the arrest of 72 year old Walter Joseph Bennett, Senior, on sexual abuse of minor charges.
Police say their investigation began on March 4 of last year when it was alleged that Bennett sexually abused a minor. The case was referred to the Juneau District Attorney's Office following the department's investigation.
On December 30 a Juneau Grand Jury indicted Bennett on 2 counts of Sexual abuse of a Minor in the first degree, an unclassified felony, and two counts of Sexual Abuse of a Minor in the second degree.
A warrant was issued following the indictment for $100,000. He was arrested the next day by Alaska State Troopers and jailed at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center as News of the North reported on January 2.
Following the grand jury indictment, police say an 18-year-old woman came forward to report that she was sexually abused by Bennett several years ago, while living in Bennett's home.
Police are asking anyone with information about these allegations, or who has been victimized by Bennett, to make a report to them by calling (907) 586-0600.
