Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Thane Road was closed again Thursday morning for additional avalanche control work by the State Department of Transportation and Public Facilities.
According to a video received by News of the North from Kiera Liska, the shoot brought down what seemed to be a sizeable avalanche.
The road closed at 10 a.m. and was scheduled to be closed until ten unless one reached the roadway which would require more time to remove the debris. If an avalanche reaches the roadway, the department says in a release that an extended closure will likely be necessary to remove the debris.
This is the second time the department has conducted avalanche control work on the roadway in the last couple of weeks. It was last done on February 23.
