MMIW&P Awareness Day rally to be held at Alaska State Capitol

    Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Tlingit & Haida’s Violence Against Women Task Force will take part in the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and People Awareness Day march at the Capitol on Thursday.

    The rally and march will take place at 5 p.m. on the steps of the Capitol and include a lineup of guest speakers and dance groups. Participants can apply the red handprint face paint starting at 4:30 p.m.

    Guest speakers are Frances Houston (A'akw Khwáan), Ben Coronell (T'aakhu Khwáan), Leona Santiago (VAW Task Force), President Richard Peterson (CCTHITA), Rep. Andi Story, Daniel Brown, Anne Sears (AST Lead Investigator - MMIP Initiative), Frances Andrews & Janelle Chapin (AKNWRC), Dr. Rosita Worl (SHI), JPD Deputy Chief David Campbell, former state commissioner Heidi Drygas, Rep. Tiffany Zulkosky, Mandy Cole (AWARE), Jeni Brown, Yolanda Fulmer, and Margaret Haube (MMIWG Advocates), and the Tlingit & Haida Department of Public Safety.

    Dance groups will include Yéil Atoowu, Eagle Raven Dancers, and Litseeni Sháa.
