Midnight Suns edge into state tournament, 3 All-Stars named

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The Midnight Suns baseball team from Juneau bested Wasilla 3-2 on Monday morning to become the No. 8 seed at the tournament.

According to head coach Joe Tompkins, the win came after the final inning of Sunday night's game was contested by the Road Warriors.

"They contested that inning, so we had to reply it Monday morning," Tompkins said. "We lucked out though. We got into the tournament as the eighth seed in the final inning of the final game of the regular season."

Juneau beat Fairbanks in a double-header Saturday, 12-1 and 6-5. The Midnight Suns finished at 6-7 overall and 5-5 in league play.

Midnight Suns pitcher Brock McCormick, and outfielders Christian Ludeman and Oliver Mendoza, were named to the All-Star team.

The state tournament begins July 24 and will be broadcast on KINY. The state bracket will be updated here.
