Memorial service held for Albert Kookesh in Angoon

    Angoon, Alaska (KINY) - On Friday evening, a memorial service was held for the late senator and Alaska Native leader, Albert Kookesh in Angoon.

    Kookesh passed away on May 28 in Angoon at the age of 72.

    Rosita Worl, president of SHI, spoke during the service. "It just said of great people, such as Senator Albert Kookesh, that a giant tree has fallen, and the grounds are reverberating from his fall," she said. "We feel those tremors throughout our homeland. We feel the pain in our hearts and soul with this great and noble man leaving this physical world."

    The service featured several speakers including Anthony Mallot and members of Kookesh's family.
