Meeting cancelled over Gay Pride resolution

Homer, Alaska (KINY) The Mayor ended up reading a proclamation outside City Hall to recognize June as LBGTQ Pride month.

The Homer News reported Mayor Bryan Zak planned to read a mayoral recognition for the pride celebration but the city council meeting was canceled due to a lack of a quorum.

Three members notified the city clerk hours before the meeting that they could not attend.  City officials admit they have received numerous emails in support and opposition to the recognition.

The three members said they didn't attend the meeting because they did not want to promote discord and controversy in the community and not because they opposed the recognition.
