Mat-Su school put in lockdown after student discharges gun on property

    Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Authorities responded to a high school in the Mat-Su after the school was put into lockdown.

    State troopers responded Thursday afternoon at 2:35 pm to a report that there was an incident at the Joe Redington Senior High School just after students were released from class.

    In a dispatch, they say initial reports had indicated that a student discharged a firearm on school property outside of the school building.

    Staff at the school secured the student and the firearm without further incident until Troopers arrived at the school.

    The student was arrested and charges were referred to the Division of Juvenile Justice.

    There were no injuries as a result of the incident, an investigation by troopers is ongoing.
