Man sustains injuries aboard Kennicott, rescued by Coast Guard

    Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The Coast Guard was called to transport a man aboard the Marine Highway Vessel Kennicott Wednesday after sustaining injuries.

    Coast Guard Sector Anchorage command center personnel received the request for assistance from the Kennicott crew, while in the Shelikof Strait, at approximately 12 p.m.

    The crew reported that a 30-year-old male passenger had sustained multiple injuries to his head, mouth and leg.

    The MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew arrived on scene at 12:55 p.m. and safely hoisted and transported the patient to Kodiak, where he was then transferred to awaiting Emergency Medical Service personnel.

    The cause of the injuries are currently under investigation.
