Man indicted for fight

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) Kurtis DeTemple will face charges of assault in the first degree and assault in the second degree.

DeTemple, 25, allegedly stabbed one man in the shoulder and struck another man with a baseball bat during a fight inside a home at 1981 Lemon Creek Road on August 14.

Juneau Police charging documents said DeTemple claimed he acted in self-defense and that he felt his life was being threatened by the victims.  He claimed he was almost struck in the face with pepper spray and was also assaulted.

JPD reports indicate DeTemple had at least 10 prior criminal convictions on his record.

One of the victims was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle and underwent surgery for the stab wound.  The second victim was taken to Bartlett Regional Hospital for a head injury.

DeTemple reportedly told police he was under the influence of methamphetamines.
