Whittier, Alaska (KINY) - The body of an Anchorage man was found Sunday after a lengthy search by Alaska State Troopers and the United States Coast Guard.

Eric Opland, 61, had operated a small raft in the Whittier area.

The Whittier Harbormaster was informed that an unmanned and adrift 15-foot raft was located about one nautical mile outside the harbor.

The Coast Guard deployed aircraft and watercraft to assist in the search.

Troopers said the body was located about 3.4 miles northeast of Whittier by the Coast Guard.

He was not wearing a personal flotation device at the time.

Troopers said alcohol appeared to be a contributing factor in the incident.

Whittier Police assisted in the investigation.
