Man dies in boating accident

Kotlik, Alaska (KINY) Searchers located the body of a man in the Kotlik Slough.

Ignatius Mike, 54, was found about a quarter mile from his boat.  The boat was found banged up and unsecured on a river bend near the village with the motor still running and no one around it.

Kotklik was transported to the Kotlik Clinic where CPR and other lifesaving measures were attempted for nearly 30 minutes before Mike was pronounced dead.

An investigation found Mike was the lone occupant in the boat and did not wear a personal flotation device.  Troopers also reported the boat was operated at a high rate of speed, failed to negotiate a sharp curve in the river and ran into the bank.  Mike was ejected upon impact.  Troopers said alcohol was a factor in the accident.
