Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - A section of Nugget Drive was blocked off Tuesday afternoon by police as they worked to arrest a man wanted on a felony arrest warrant for violating a court order for failing to report to jail.
Lieutenant Krag Cambell said 21-year-old Benjamin Devin Parson was found inside a vehicle parked at a residence in the 84 hundred block of the Mendenhall Valley roadway.
The lieutenant says they had previously received information that Parson may have recently been in possession of a .45 caliber handgun, so additional safety precautions were taken. It was also believed that a woman may have been inside the van with Parson.
Over the next couple of hours, officers attempted to communicate with Parson inside the van, but were unsuccessful. Additional law enforcement units, including Alaska State Troopers and a police crisis negotiator, responded to assist.
Increased communications began and soon afterward, Parson began speaking with police from inside the van. After about another 15-minutes, Parson and the woman exited the van without further incident.
Parson was placed under arrest per his warrant and taken to the Lemon Creek Correctional Center. Officers obtained a search warrant for the van and no firearms were located inside.
While officers were at the residence attempting to locate Parson, the lieutenant said they located another person who was wanted on several warrants. Scott Louis Whiteley, 34 was placed under arrest for his warrants, which were seven misdemeanor warrants totaling $700; all related to failing to appear or conditions of release violations.
