Man arrested in Ketchikan after firearm discharged by middle school

Ketchikan, Alaska (KINY) - On Wednesday, March 10, Ketchikan police officers responded to reports of a male discharging a firearm during an altercation near the skate park and Schoenbar Middle School.

With the help of Alaska State Troopers and US Forest Service Law Enforcement, responding officers identified 28-year-old Michael G. Hosely.

Hosely fled and was contacted at a residence downtown. Officers seized the firearm involved with the incident, along with a small amount of methamphetamine.

Hosely allegedly got into a verbal altercation with another adult and fired a round from a handgun into the ground.

The incident took place near the middle school, but a release from the department says no students or staff were involved with the incident or put in danger by it.

Hosely was arrested for two counts of third-degree assault, fourth-degree misconduct involving weapons, and fifth-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance.

He is being held without bail at Ketchikan Correctional Center. The case is still being investigated.
