Lumberman update offered on Action Line

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - An update on the derelict tug boat the Lumberman, aground on state tidelands in Gastineau Channel since May 8th, was offered by CBJ Port Director Carl Uchytil on Action Line Wednesday.

He said the Coast Guard has installed an automatic information system marker  on the vessel and the Marine Exchange of Alaska is monitoring its drift and movement on a 24 hour basis.

Uchytil said the Lumberman remains on state tidelands.  The Department of Natural Resources is pursuing all options to address the situation, according to the port director.

When host Pete Carran asked if the state is waiting for the vessel to drag its anchor back on to CBJ tidelands, Uchytil said that's always a possibility.   When it was pointed out that he was happy to see it drift from city owned tidelands, the port director said, "I think they call it an act of God."
