Latest COVID 19 numbers for Juneau and Alaska revealed

    Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Three more COVID-19 cases were reported by the City and Borough of Juneau Emergency Operations Center Thursday.

    A release states that two of the cases are new while one is older previously unreported.  Public Health attributes one of the new cases to secondary transmission.  The other new case is under investigation.

    There are now 15 active cases in Juneau, according to the release.  All are in isolation with two hospitalized.

    The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services reported 341 new cases Thursday.  Two deaths were also reported.  They were identified as a  Fairbanks man in his 70s and an Anchorage man in his 60s.  That brings the statewide death toll to 227.

    According to the state, 1,925 people in the Juneau area have received their first vaccine does while 575 have completed both doses.  Statewide 39,367 have received the first dose and 10,424 both.

    The City and Borough of Juneau estimates that close to 3 thousand people in Juneau will have at least one dose of a COVID vaccine by Sunday.  A clinic is scheduled at Centennial Hall today through Sunday.
