Labor Secretary visits Alaska

Fairbanks, Alaska (KINY) Labor Secretary Alexander Acosta predicted an improvement in Alaska's economy due to an increase in military spending.

Acosta visited Fairbanks and King Salmon Sunday and Anchorage this morning.  He was joined by US Senators Dan Sullivan and Lisa Murkowski.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner said Acosta also predicted the pro-energy policies of the Trump Administration would also assist Alaska's economy.  Acosta also denied that tension with China trade has an impact on Alaska's economy.

The Department is also looking to streamline the H2-B visa program. It gives temporary visas to foreign workers who work in the hotel and motel industry and in seafood processing plants in Alaska.
