Ketchikan airport testing reveals 2 new COVID-19 cases

    Ketchikan, Alaska (KINY) - Two new positive test results for COVID-19 were identified through the Ketchikan airport traveler testing site.

    The first person arrived from out-of-state on July 23, but did not stay in the community and traveled on to a different location. This traveler has been notified of the positive test result.

    The second person arrived in Ketchikan on July 25, is asymptomatic, and is staying locally in Ketchikan.

    This traveler has been notified of the positive test result, has been directed to isolate, and is being monitored by healthcare providers.

    Public Health officials have begun the contact investigations. Public Health will notify and quarantine additional persons as appropriate. Through the contact investigation, Public Health will direct testing of persons that meet criteria based on contact with any confirmed case of COVID-19.

    Today’s cases bring the cumulative COVID-19 case count, including travelers, to 46. The number of positive cases of individuals residing or staying in Ketchikan is 41. Of the 41 cases, 10 are still active, and 31 have recovered.
