Kake man sentenced after pleading guilty to commercial seine violation

    Sitka, Alaska (KINY) - A Kake man has been sentenced and fined after pleading guilty to salmon fishing violations.

    On April 1, Delbert Kadake of Kake entered a guilty plea in the District Court at Sitka. Kadake was fined $6,000 with $2,000 suspended, ordered to forfeit the value of the fish seized ($561), and placed on probation for one year.

    In August of last year, Alaska Wildlife Troopers from the Sitka post observed the F/V Jade Ann commercial fishing in waters not open to commercial seining in District 13A. 

    Investigation revealed the vessel had purse seine gear deployed approximately 1.5 nautical miles west of the open area in Salisbury Sound.  Kadake Jr. was cited for commercial seine closed period. 

    More than 1,180 lbs of salmon were seized.
