Juneau to receive smaller coastal patrol boat to replace Liberty

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Juneau Port Director Carl Uchytil talked about the Coast Guard's decision not to base one of its new fast response cutters here while a guest on Action Line Wednesday.

He said Juneau will get a smaller vessel to replace the Liberty.  When the Liberty gets decommissioned in 2023, Uchytil explained that the Coast Guard will backfill the Liberty with an 87 foot coastal patrol boat.  "That has a crew of ten.  The Liberty has a crew of 18.  "Not the outcome we were hoping for, but its better than a kick in the teeth,"  Uchytil said.
