Juneau school board member feels Governor's comments on use of federal funds is misleading

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Juneau School Board member Deedie Sorensen was dismayed with Governor Dunleavy's decision to redline $30 Million from the budget sent him by lawmakers for education.

She believes the Governor's statement that federal Cares Act funding can replace the reductions is extremely misleading.  "The Cares Act money will have attachments to it.  We will not be able to use it like we could have used the legislative grant to work on class size or upgrades of materials or any of those things.  I mean it's going to be tied to things that we are going to have to do to ameliorate the impact of the COVID-19 crises."

Sorensen made her remarks on Action Line.
