Juneau pitched as long weekend destination to Pacific Northwest residents

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Travel Juneau is continuing its efforts to promote Juneau as a winter destination

While a guest on Action Line, President and CEO Liz Perry talked  about a recent promotion in the Pacific Northwest where people were encouraged to come to Juneau for a long weekend.  As a result, they got a lot of hits to their web site and people watched their promotional video.

She says the video conveys Juneau as a long weekend destination for those who live in the Pacific Northwest.  It's pointed out to them that they can be in Juneau in a shorter period of time and on the slopes at Eaglecrest than they will spend driving to their ski destination.

Juneau was among nine destinations identified by the Travel Channel recently where travelers should visit off season.  It advertises Juneau as the gateway to the Mendenhall Glacier and mentions the ice caves which no longer exist.  Perry says they try to get such information corrected as quickly as possible.  So she says they convey the fact that the ice caves are no longer available where they once were.

On another front, Trip Advisor recognized Juneau as one of eight U. S.cities with what it called "top notch outdoor activities."  Juneau was listed with the likes of Phoenix, Denver and Boston.
