Juneau Man arrested for theft, assault

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - A man was arrested following a theft in the 100 block of South Franklin Street, and also assault for pulling a knife on an officer Sunday afternoon.

Juneau Police had responded to a shoplift-in-progress at a downtown business Sunday and after responding to the business, a responding officer saw a man that had a matching description of the suspect near City Hall.

The man was later identified as 31-year-old Steve Allen Kissack.

When an officer stopped to make contact, Kissack drew a fixed blade knife from a sheath on his side and starting walking towards the officer in a threatening manner according to the release.

The officer, who was by himself, drew his firearm and gave Kissack multiple commands to put the knife down but Kissack refused the commands.

Additional officers arrived and he was taken into custody.

Police spoke to the original complainant, who told police that Kissack had stolen a can of soda.

Juneau Police said he was placed under arrest for assault in the 3rd degree for placing the responding officer in fear of serious physical injury with the knife, and theft in the 4th degree for stealing the can of soda.

Kissack was taken to jail and held without bail.
