Juneau man allegedly tries to smuggle in pills

    Juneau, Alaska (KINY) A 37 year old Juneau man was behind bars on drug charges after postal inspectors said they intercepted two packages that contained a large amount of prescription pills.

    Affidavits from the Juneau Police Department and US Postal Inspector stated Kawika Kelliihoomalu,tried to pick up two packages at the Mendenhall Post Office on November 13.

    Postal inspectors brought the suspicious package to the Juneau Police Department.on November 8th and had a K-9 unit inspect them.  After they secured a search warrant,  officers said they located 163 pills of hydrocodone in one package and 100 pills in the second package.  Officers went on to state that they located 6.44 grams of methamphetamine and four ecstasy pills.  Some of the hydrocodone were found inside two peanut M&M bags.

    The grand jury indicted Mr. Kelliihoomalu on November 16 on four felony drug charges.  These charges include four counts of misconduct involving a controlled substance in the second degree.

    Authorities said Mr. Kelliihoomalu made a statement that he was attempting to bring the prescription pills from California into Juneau so he could sell them.
