Juneau finalizing preparations for cruise ship season

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Juneau's tourism season kicks off with the docking of the first big cruise ship this Sunday.

Liz Perry, the president and CEO of Travel Juneau, says they are organizing a big greeting for the vessel when it docks at 9 that morning.  She says Juneau residents are welcome to join in the greeting.

Kirby Day of Princess Tours has been involved with the Tourism Best Management Practices program since its inception 23 years ago.

A meeting is set for Tuesday evening.  Day says the meeting is hosted by the Juneau Economic Development Council and TBMP.   He says it will be a chance for the public to share and discuss their concerns.  Representatives of tour operators are encouraged to attend, he says.

The meeting is scheduled from 5:30 to 6:30 at the Elizabeth Peratrovich Hall on Willoughby Avenue downtown.

Meanwhile, the cruise ship season extends into October this year.  The Norwegian Jewel will visit on October 2.

Day and Perry made their remarks on Action Line.
