Juneau Empire sold

    Juneau, Alaska (KINY) Sound Publishing of Seattle announced Wednesday that it had purchased the Juneau Empire, Capital City Weekly, and two other Alaska publications.

    The Juneau Empire reported that they also purchased the Homer News and the Peninsula Clarion owned by GateHouse Media.

    Sound Publishing is a subsidiary of Black Press, a Victoria British Columbia company with publications in Canada, Washington, Hawaii and California.

    Juneau Empire Publisher Joe Leong, will continue to work for GateHouse Media.  He will transfer to the companies Western Division headquarters.  No replacement has been announced for Mr. Leong.

    The Empire reported there are no major changes planned in the local papers at this time. 

    GateHouse Media purchased the Empire in August of last year.
