Juneau Chamber of Commerce issues 'call to action' over CBJ budget

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The Greater Juneau Chamber of Commerce has issued a "Call To Action - Notice to Chamber Membership" over a proposed property tax increase.

The City & Borough Finance Committee meeting is being held Wednesday at 5 p.m. and the Chamber's Board of Directors is submitting a letter to the CBJ Assembly that will object to a proposed $11 million increase in property taxes, make a recommendation there be no reduction/elimination in CIP projects, and ask that the CBJ consider cuts to the operating budget connected with the reduced level of services and closure of facilities.

"The business community specifically and the community at large can ill-afford a tax increase while dealing with the impacts from business closures, layoffs, and reduced business activity as a result of the coronavirus," states a press release from the Chamber.

The Finance Committee does not take public testimony, but you can listen into the meeting starting at 5 p.m. today on Vimeo, Facebook Live, or via audio at 907-463-5043.
